When we’re not out there building new shower/tub combos or arranging surrounds just right, we can be found here, putting together easy to digest, ready to read blogs for consumption. This time on the blog we are answering a question that pops up frequently: what is cultured marble?
As mentioned, marble is one of the foundation materials in classical style architecture. While the name for the metamorphic rock is Greek, the material has been used all over the ancient world. It is that history that makes marble such a tradition in elegance to this day! But now we have a newer method to bring marble into homes – cultured marble.
What is Cultured Marble?
Cultured marble, also known as engineered stone, is the end product of the mixing of resins, pigments, and particles of stone. This process creates a range of colors and – more importantly – natural looking patterns. The fixtures are cast in molds, not carved, which means you can get every kind of shape or piece you want for your bathrooms (or anywhere else for that matter!)
Benefits of Cultured Marble
What is cultured marble providing that makes it so desirable? Quite a lot as you might imagine! The main draws for using cultured marble in your home projects.
Beauty
The process of creating cultured marble makes for gorgeous and natural looking marbling. The depth, uniqueness, and character that can be created in the casting process makes it so that whatever marble you are looking for you can get it.
Durability
Cultured marble is incredibly durable, due mostly to its non-porous nature. When materials are porous, they can absorb stains, allow mildew in, and are more prone to chipping and damage. Cultured marble is not, and so resists stains and damage better.
Economical
As you can imagine, traditional slab marble is incredibly expensive. Having to cut, haul, carve, and transport the exact piece of marble stone can make it an exorbitant cost. Cultured marble is much more economical to fabricate. Not only is it more economical to create, but it also will raise the value of a home, property as well.
Customization
Again, cultured marble’s cast nature makes for a huge range of colors, styles, patterns and shapes, meaning you can get exactly what you are looking for. The perfect fitting piece, right out the mold. No need to rebuild your counters or bathroom (though if you are one of our customers, you might be doing that already.)
Cultured marble is a key tool in any bathroom remodelers kit, one that we here at American Bathroom Remodeling, Inc. wield with flair. When doing any bathroom remodeling job, make sure you have the right tools, the right materials, and of course the right people.
